Parkour is a training discipline that is a mash-up of running, gymnastics and tumbling. The object is to move quickly through the environment, using only muscles and sweat to propel yourself. According to the strictest definition, Parkour is the act of moving from point "a" to point "b" using the obstacles in your path to increase your efficiency.
Parkour, fundamentally, is a philosophy, and a way a life. It’s a way of looking at any environment and believing in your heart that there is no obstacle in life that cannot be overcome. Everyone is a unique individual, so no two people will come up with the exact same solution, but there is a "way through" for us all.
Ages 11 and up
Parkour is not a sport, it is the "Art of Movement." This discipline consists of both mental and physical training to overcome any obstacle in one's path. The YMCA offers a two hour workshop that will focus on balance, precision, creativity, fluidity, physical conditioning, mental awareness, body control, and fall prevention. Parkour is all about training safe and progressing at your own pace. Advanced Parkour is a drop in class that runs every session.
