Ages 15 years and up

Do you want to learn the skills to save a life? With our YMCA and American Red Cross lifeguard certification courses you can do just that. Participants will learn lifeguarding skills, how to perform CPR, how to use an AED, and necessary first-aid skills. These classes are open for members and community participants.

YMCA Lifeguard Course

Ages 16 and up

The skills learned in this course will cover water and land rescues, CPR, AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid. Includes water park and waterfront certification. This is a nationally accepted lifeguard certification.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be at least age 16 at completion of course
  • Swim continuously the 500 yard lifeguard medley
    (front, breast, and side strokes)
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
  • Feet-first surface dive to 9 feet and return to the surface of the pool
  • Pick up a 10-pound brick off the bottom of the pool and swim 25 yards
  • Swim underwater for a distance of 15 feet
  • Participants must attend all classes for the session.
    No make up classes are offered.

Upon completion, participant will be certified in:

  • YMCA Lifeguarding
  • American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI)
    CPR Pro, AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid

American Red Cross Lifeguard Course

Ages 15 and up
