Shallow Water Exercise

Increase flexibility, cardio fitness and muscle strength in this water class.

Make the most of the resistive qualities of water to help increase your flexibility, cardio fitness and muscle strength. Perfect for first-time exercisers, currently active or those looking for a good workout. This class is taught in chest deep water. Participants should be comfortable in the water but do not need to have swimming skills.

  • Teens age 14+ may attend unaccompanied by an adult

A Typical Class

Participants start out with a combination of aerobic movements and alternating arm and leg exercises. The second half of the class involves the use of dumbbells for targeting specific muscle groups and finishes with stretching and a cool-down.

Outcomes/Benefits

  • Low impact = very gentle on joints
  • Cardio, strength and flexibility workout all in one class
  • Participants can move at their own pace

Tips + Preparation

  • Wear water shoes if you have trouble walking on the pool floor
