"In 2016, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I learned as much as I could about prostate cancer and found a prostate cancer support group at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center in Sheboygan. From that group, I learned about the LIVESTRONG® program at the YMCA and registered. Expecting that I would have to have surgery at some point in the future, I wanted to improve my overall health. Halfway through my first session, I needed surgery. I had to drop out of that session, but fortunately, I was in good health thanks to my involvement with LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, and the surgery went well. I reapplied to LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA and completed my second session. Seeing the determination of other cancer survivors in both of my LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA sessions, I decided to become a volunteer and try to encourage others as my predecessors encouraged me. Whether you’re a cancer survivor or the loved one of someone with cancer, please consider volunteering."
