"About 17 years ago, my daughter Lisa was a child care teacher at the Y's Cedar Lake site, and I was a stay at home mom. Lisa recruited me as a volunteer but her supervisor, Terri Kluever, quickly hired me as a substitute. Since my youngest child was still in school, the short shifts fit easily into my family life.
In 2008, the Cedar Lake Center relocated to the West Washington Branch. For the next 9 years, I worked at the Y's Discovery Center in the infant and toddler room mostly with infants. By 2017, I was in my late fifties, and I was having difficulty keeping up with 4 babies at a time 3 days in a row. I asked for a cut in hours and was transferred to the Y's Holy Trinity site in Newburg.
Working for the Y's child care department has been very rewarding. It was being part of a team and part of the community. Partnering with parents to help raise their children created many family-like bonds.
The Y child care centers are more than a group of buildings. They are a community of dedicated people who care deeply about the children and the parents they serve. I am proud to have been a part of it for the past 17 years."
