Job Duties:

To assist the Program Director in the development of the overall day camp program. Must be at the specified site for 90% of the time that it is open, arriving at least 15 - 30 minutes early prior to its start. Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the goals of the YMCA Day Camp program as well as the licensing rules for the State of Wisconsin. Appropriately assign and train all counseling staff in the leadership and supervision of all camp activities. Obtain all materials and supplies needed for planned activities. Participate in 40 hours of staff training. Attend all staff meetings, and training sessions. Follow and maintain discipline policies as outlined in the Day Camp manual. Cover for counselor or other program positions as needed. Act as a group counselor for peak weeks. Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures appropriate for the individual site to ensure the safety of the children. Be aware of public relations between the camp and parents as well as the community. Be responsible for appearance of the site. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements:
  • At least 21 years of age;
  • Received their Bachelor’s Degree in outdoor education, recreation, social work, psychology, child development or education, or in another camp-related field; OR have at least 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience in an organized camp or children’s program
  • Serve as the deemed on-duty, on-site Health Supervisor for the Day Camp and be certified in First Aid and CPR (or be willing to become certified after hire)
  • The Day Camp Site Director must have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. The Day Camp Site Director must express a sincere interest in children, comprehend their needs, support the counselors and handle group or individual counseling situations.
