Gymnastics & Dance

The YMCA Gymnastics/Dance program provides an atmosphere that focuses on the progressive development of each child’s skills while staying in touch with the YMCA mission and the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Parent-Guided Classes
(parents must be present)

Little Movers   Age 2 & 3 with parent
Parent-guided gymnastics class; emphasis is taught through rhythmic movement, body awareness and repetition.  Class focuses on both gross and fine motor development while emphasizing the importance of toddler socialization.

Gymnastics Together  Age 3 & 4 with parent
Parent-guided gymnastics class focuses on the development of basic gymnastics skills, somersaults, handstands, swinging, and balancing.  

Tumbling
Various ages

Coed Tumbling I         Age 3-4
A strong foundation for coordination and strength; focus on basic body positions, coordination and balance in relation the vault, bars, balance beam, floor, rings and parallel bars.

Coed Tumbling II        Age 5-6
Incorporate headstands, backward somersaults, beginning bridges, leaps, rear supports, tuck jumps and pike swings.

Coed Tumbling Superstars      Age 5-6
Class incorporates multi-skill coordination (combination of existing skills), intermediate bridges, lever kicks, leaps on the beam, straddle jumps and swinging turns.

Boys Gymnastics
Ages 6+

Learn progressive skills on the bar, vault, floor, rings and parallel bars. Boys younger than six are encouraged to participate in Coed Tumbling.
Progressive Gymnastics
Age 1st grade and older OR with consent of instructor

Beginner 1 & 2 (Purple/Blue)
Skills learned will be running technique, swinging, casting, pullovers (on the bars),
balancing on the beam, forward & backward rolling, handstands and cartwheels on the floor exercise. 

Intermediate 1 & 2 (Green/Yellow)
Skills emphasized are the board approach using the underarm lift technique, vaulting to the mat, back hip circling and front mills on the bars, jumps, turns and partial handstands on the beam, round offs and back walkovers on the floor exercise. 

Advanced 1 & 2 (Orange/Yellow)
Many of the skills emphasized are comparable to those we do with the Competitive Team, such as: vault handstand onto the 32’ mat, front hip circling and glide kips on bars, leap, handstand and round off dismount on the beam, dive rolls, front walk over and round off back handspring on the floor exercise.

Dance
Various ages

WINTER RECITAL All dancers welcome.
We encourage all of our dance participants to register for both the Fall and Late Fall
Sessions to learn some exciting Ballet, Tap, Baton, Jazz, & Pom routines to be
preformed in December! Our Winter Recital will take place at the Kettle Moraine
YMCA with the conclusion of the Late Fall Session. Recital and costume information
will be handed out the first week of classes. For more information please contact

Beginner Ballerinas
Ages 2-3
Encourage self-confidence, poise and focus through creative movement, rhythm,& ballet basics.

Mini Jazz Poms
Ages 3-4
Practice poms will be provided, class will develop short routines utilizing dance elements of jazz, hip hop
and pom.

Tap & Ballet 1
Age 3
Tap shoes are recommended, class is a combination of tap and ballet basics. Foster inner creativity
through classic dance form.

Tap & Ballet 2
Age 4-6
Tap shoes are recommended, a continuation of Tap & Ballet 1. Routines learned emphasize ballet and
tap technique and form.

Jazz Poms 1
Ages 5-7
Practice poms will be available, class will learn routines focused on precision and teamwork while utilizing
dance styles of jazz, funk, and hip hop.

Jazz Poms 2
Ages 8-10
Practice poms will be available, building on jazz poms 1. The class will incorporate increased hip hop and
kick to build precision routines.

Baton
Age 6-12
Beginner baton movements in combination with dance and music. Located in Racquetball Court #1.

Funky Hip Hop Jazz 
Ages 4-6 years
A little hip hop, funk and jazz for our beginner dancer. Do you have a mover and a shaker? Let them
dance and explore their creativity, basics of movement and rhythm will be explored within this class.

 Hip Hop Dance 1
Ages 7-9 years
Class will incorporate basic elements of jazz, modern and funk for the fundamental dance basics
necessary to learn hip hop styling of dance.

Hip Hop Dance 2
Ages 10-14 years
Building on Hip Hop 1, additional funk and kick dance will be incorporated into the class. As well as
intermediate techniques of jazz, modern and ballet for student development.

Dynamite Team Gymnastics

Competitive Gymnastics is offered for both Boys and Girls with competition beginning in October.  The competitive program follows USA-Gymnastics Junior Olympic Compulsory & Optional Program as well as the YMCA National Guidelines. Team participants must be a member of the YMCA which they represent.  New or interested participants need instructor consent prior to registration, for more information please contact Kate Marikova, Gymnastics Director at 262-247-1028.

Pre Team
This 2 day a week program emphasizes the conditioning, strength training and skill building necessary for entrance into the Competitive Team Dynamites Program.  Instructor consent is necessary prior to registration

Gymnastics Open Workout
Supervised gymnastics time open to all progressive students in Beginner 1 & 2 or above.

Private Lessons
One-on-one instruction is available for any age or skill level, personal instruction to meet the individual’s needs. Adaptive students are welcome. Please call Kate Marikova for scheduling information at 262-247-1028 .
